Near the Otter Cliffs in Acadia National Park, the large stones which break away from the cliffside are brought back ashore by the strength of the nor’easter storms which pass through the region. These boulders, mostly composed of granite, are tossed and turned over one another until they are rounded into smooth surfaces. Despite each stone being larger than a basketball, with each wave passing over causes the entire beach to clatter and quake.
