If you’ve every found yourself traveling across Nebraska, you may have an understanding of what the early settlers encountered during their westward journey (aside from Dysentery). It’s a big place, with big skies, seemingly endless prairies and quite flat terrain. It must have been appreciable to see this 300 foot tall beacon of sandstone, now known as Chimney Rock, jutting out of the horizon. As a landmark, it indicated the travelers were heading in the right direction and would soon be entering the Rocky Mountain region.
